ALCA welcomes the amendment to allow for appropriate use of the Native Vegetation Fund for land acquisition, but is concerned about the proposed use of the Fund for administrative purposes - which could reduce the amount of offsets available for on-ground outcomes.

ALCA’s welcomes the amendment that would allow the Native Vegetation Fund to be utilised to for the acquisition of land into South Australia’s protected area network where it can deliver ‘like-for-like or better’ environmental offsets. However, we are concerned that the amendment to allow the Fund to “support the operation or administration of the Act” will reduce the amount of offset available for on-ground outcomes, unless there is a legislative requirement to recover this expenditure from applicants seeking to clear native vegetation.
